“Large Feet Are Now Widespread" With Women Today

Have you heard of the Association of Women With Large Feet? It has more than 500 members, all with one thing in common: big feet, and a lack of smart and dainty shoes to fit them.

The founder is Mrs Phyllis Crone, or Airton, Yorks, who stands sft 2in in her size 94- shoes. Fellowmembers of the A.W.L.F. are *all between sft 9in and 6ft 2in.

Their aim: To persuade shoemakers to produce shoes which fit the bigger-footed and still look feminine. Says Mrs Crone: “Young girls with large feet suffer acute embarrassement because of the hideous shoes they have to wear to dances and dates.” Older women suffer too and not only with shoes. The A.W.L.F.. is also campaigning for larger gloves, larger hats in young styles and longer stockings. Mrs Stephen said: “Shopping for the big woman is not so difficult as it was. Things are improving.” Average shoe size is now, 6 or 7 as compared with 44 to 54- before the war, and stocking size is 10 as against 9 to 94-.
