Method Of Growing Ferns From Spores

With normal conditions and a bit of care it is fairly simple to grow ferns from spores in most parts of the Bay of Plenty. First cut off fronds which carry a mist-like deposit under the leaves, lay them in a shady corner, cover lightly with fine sand, and keep just “damp,” not wet. The powdery seed germinates quickly, and the seedlings will thrive if a little lifted compost is placed around them to help root growth. When large enough plant the fernlets in pots and place them in a sheltered position.
