FIRE BRIGADE THANKED
Six’,—Please allow me space in youi' columns to expi’ess my appreciation of the fine work done by members of the Whakatane Volunteer Fire Brigade during the past few days. Quite candidly, Sir, I think they deseiwe more assistance from the ordinary people, and less criticism of an unhelpful nature, apparently common from residents of Whakatane. Before concluding let me say that I think it ns about time some arrangement was made with% the county council to pay for the upkeep of the borough brigade, which often attends fires in their atea. I contribute to the brigade and am proud of the high service it maintains but I do not think the county can expect to receive an expensive and first class service 'to which they are refusing to contribute. Yours etc., BRIGADE SUPPORTER. • Whakatane, February 9.
