Surf Lifesaving
TO GIVE DEMONSTRATIONS Advice that the touring Australian surf life saving team will reach Whakatane on Tuesday morning has been received by the Whakatane Surf .Life Saving Club, which finalised arrangements yesterday for the visit. While at Whakatane the visitors will stay at the Whakatane Hotel where they will be welcomed by the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry. Later they will give a demonstration of life saving to pupils of the Whakatane Primary and Post Primary Schools at the Heads. In the afternoon the main demonstration of surf life saving will be given at Ohope Beach, commencing at 3 p.m. The champion Whakatane Ladies’ team will be taking part as well as other teams from the local club. Beside ordintry surf drill with a reel the Australians will give exhibitions with a surf ski, surf swimming and surf body shooting. In the evening they will be the guests at a special dance at Ohope. They leave for Gisborne late Wednesday morning.
