Whakatane Brigade Works To Speed
The Whakatane Volunteer Fire Brigade has often been accused of being sloAy when turning out to fires but the recent performances of the brigade must surely refute these complaints. When the alarm rang on Monday summoning the brigade to a grass fire an interested bystander timed the brigade from the first wail of the ’ alarm to the time when the tender came out onto the road. He timed 65 seconds. Someone ejse made a similar timing at a previous alarm and he made 70 seconds.
This is very fast going when it is considered that all members have to travel some distance from their «homes or work to reach the station. A visitor to Whakatane said on Monday that he would not have believed that a volunteer brigade could work so quickly if he had not been with the person who did the timing that day.
