Small Yarding Of Ewes At Annual Fair
Because the main consignment of sheep did not arrive in time from the East Coast there was a smaller yarding at the Opotiki ewe fair of the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., than last year. All breeding ewes were sold under the hammer while competition for five-year-old lines was particularly keen and values for two-tooth lines increased several shillings per head on the first fair held the previous week.
Most of the sheep were sold to buyers from outside districts, but the local demand for good quality breeding ewes was also strong. The following is a range of prices realised:—
Two-tooth ewes, £2 10s to £2 18s 6d; 5-year ewes, 37s to 38s 8d; aged ewes, 20s to 29s 6d; fat ewes, 25s to 28s; 4-tooth wethers, 37s 6d.
