Rare Fish Caught In Mayor Island Waters

A South African blue marlin, the first caught in Mayor Island waters years, was landed by Mr C. Woodward, of Waiuku, fishing from R. B. Gray’s Virginia. The fish which weighed approximately 350 pounds, fought for one and a-quar-ter hours before it was landed. Another South African blue marlin, caught three years ago near the island, was sent to the Auckland Museum.

Two mako sharks were caught last week. The first weighed 200 paunds was landed by Mr H. G. Vine, of Tirau, from the Virignia, and the second by Mr T. C. Peek, of Tauranga, from the Moana (A. Hunter). The second mako weighed 210 pounds. f
