, Tender Accepted A tender for the erection of the new home life block at the Whakatane High School has been accepted and work is expected to start on the building soon. This new block will incorporate a model flat and will provide additional facilities for teaching house work.

Lodge Card Evening There was a good attendance to the progressive 500 card evening of the Whakatane Druids Lodge held in the Parish Hall. The women’s section was won by Mrs F. Worrall, and the men by Mr H. Pedersen. Booby prizes went to Mrs D. Bridger and Mrs L. Needham.

Trotting Permit Wanted Now that 19 additional trotting permits have been allocated to clubs in New Zealand the Bay of Plenty Trotting Club has decided to • apply for a '-permit to hold a totalisator meeting at Tauranga. This decision was reached at a special committee meeting of the club.

Wrong Man The first few copies ot the Beacon printed on Wednesday mistakenly reported that Miss Betty Pearson had married Mr Ken Hyland. Actually, the report contributed to us didn’t mention * the bridegroom at all, but one of the relatives of the bride, when asked for his name, gave us the name of the best man instead. Mr Harold Barber was the bridegroom. Fortunately, another relative corrected the mistake before the press had ben running long. However, what really matters is what the bride wore, isn’t it?
