Danger Of Fire In Whakatane County

Becaifse of the possible serious damage through grass and bush fires travellers in the Whakatane and Tauranga Counties are being urged to take extra care when passing through these areas. Broadcast warnings are being made every day and the danger has been increased by the continuation of the dry, hot weather.

Following the fire at Thornton last week which swept through about 300 acres of lupin and other scrub farmers and other land owners have been warned to take extra care when burning off or lighting fires anywhere. Picnic parties and other holiday makers have been asked to take extra care.
