Maori Celebrations At Te Kaha

About 2000 people gathered at Te Kaha on Saturday to celebrate the 600th aniversary of the arrival of the Tainui, Arawa, Nukutere, Horouta and Tauira canoes to New Zealand. Maoris from many districts of the North Island were present. A memorial was unveiled and dedicated by the Right Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa. A memorial stone to Maori servicemen killed in the war was also unveiled.
