Huge Eel Caught In Tarawera River

Fishing in the Tarawera Rityer, Mr L. R. Jones, a schoolmaster from Pukehina, caught an eel weighing 301bs, sft 6ins long, with a girth of 18 inches. Mr Jones and some companions were trout fishing, and had just caught a small eel, when they saw the monster glide from cover. Hastily, Mr Jones baited a schnapper hook with a piece of the small eel. The big one bit, but' straightened the hook easily. Next move Was to tie the bait to a strong line and let the big fellow swallow it. That worked, and he was landed after a bit of a struggle.
