Whakatane To Have Holiday On January 30

After consideration by a meeting of Whakatane retailers on Monday evening the [proposal to celebrate the Auckland Anniversary on February 6 was turned down and it was decided to celebrate the holiday, as with other centres in the province, on January 30. .The previous suggestion for February 6 was advanced with the idea' that a holiday on that day wouldenable the business people of the town to attend the British Empire Games rowing, which are to be held then on Lake Karapiro. As many people have already made arrangements to celebrate the anniversary on January 30 the meeting decided not to change the date.
