IS SUN LEAVING TAURANGA? MAYOR FEELS CONCERNED

According to official weather statistics Tauranga is gradually sliding back in its place on the New Zealand sunshine record and, believe it or not, this is causing the Tauranga Borough Council some concern. How the Councils intends to change this situation is not quite clear but, according to a report of the last monthly meeting, the Mayor, Mr L. R. Wilkinson, expressed his concern and pointed out that Tauranga’s place on the list ' was not what it had been—it hadn’t been for some time.

He felt something should be done about it. Some councillors received the statement with 'a degree of humour —they were npt, at first; sure as to what they could do about it. But the Mayor, when raising the question, stressed his seriousness. He thought that it was an important one.

Mr Wilkinson suggested that the council should request the Otumoe*. tai District Ratepayers’ Association to find a suitable place for the accurate recording of Tauranga’s sunshine hours. He thought the Otumoetai 'residents would be pleased to do this.

“Seriously,” /Mr Wilkinson repeated, “I do think we could get a better place for recordings.” The council agreed to the proposal.
