Surf Lifesaving

CHAMPIONSHIPS AT OHOPE ON SUNDAY Full accommodation and other arrangements for housing about 50 visiting surf swimmers and officials at Ohope over the week-end have been completed by the Whakatane Surf Club, which is to stage the Bay of Plenty Cup surf championships on the beach on Sunday. Ciubs are expected from Waihi, Mt. Maunganui, Gisborne and Wainui. This is the first year this competition has been held at Whakatane since before the war and the club is making a special effort, to make it one of the finest yet held. Both men’s and women’s teams will be taking part. About five main events, all testing competitors’ ability in the surf, will decide the Bay of Plenty Cup. These will include six-man and four-man displays, surf and beltman’s races and the spectacular march past. Aggregate points will be taken and the teams with the most takes the cup. In addition there will be surf ski events and displays of body shooting by some of the most skilled surf swimmers in the district.

Tbe competition will commence in the morning and will carry on until, late in the afternoon.
