Carnival Committee’s Fishing Trips Were Highly Successful
The fishing trips organised by the Carnival Committee were highly successful this year, though not so frequent as had been hoped because wind and tides were against good fishing at Christmas time. However, there were four successful excursions out to sea during the holiday period, and the fifth and last trip took place yesterday. Most of the passengers on all occasions were visitors to Whakatane, and all of them enjoyed .themselves as much as their resistance to seasickness would let them. As a matter of fact, most times the weather could hardly have been bettered, and all but the very bad sailors kept full stomachs and normal complexions. There were plenty of hapuku about, one day yielding 70, another 32 and a third 20. The day that 18 people landed 70 hapuku, they also caught 150 schnapper. That was New Year’s Eve, the best day of all.
