Stretching Meagre Butter Rations
Those who have lunches to cut find great difficulty in making the butter ration—even with the recent increase—go far enough. The following recipe will make Jib butter do the work of 11b. • Jib butter. 2 heaped tablespoons full cieam milk powder. 1 cup liquid milk. 1 teaspoon gelatine. J teaspoon iodised salt
Method: Mix the powdered milk with liquid milk and add gelatine and salt. Heat till the gelatine is dissolved, but do not boil. Pour this hot mixture over the butter, which has been cut up small. Beat. When blended pour into a dish to cool and set.
This will make lib of reliable butter substitute for spreading on bread.
