During the warmer months summer diarrhoea, known by most people as summer sickness, makes its painful appearance in the Bay of Plenty. The germ may be picked from food and Heeding utensils that have been contaminated by flies or dirty hands so that for this reason alone, the Health Department' advises, care should be taken to keep hands clean and flies- away from around liomes. / A good method of treatment for both adults and children is to use raw, unsweetened, grated apple. <sive about two tablespoons every hour and. nothing else but boiled ■water until the sickness and diarrhoea cease.
