Beauty Contest And Baby Show Held At Surf Club Opening
Surf drill displays, judging of a beauty contest and a baby show were highlights at the official opening of the season of the Whakatane Surf Club at Ohope yesterday. The beauty contest attracted a fair number, of entries and was watched by a crowd, who also saw club members put on a fine exhibition of surf drill and surf swimming.
Novelty races were held on the beach for the large number of children who attended the opening. The beauty contest was won by Miss M. Wilson with Miss C. Fitzgerald second. Misses J. Matson and R. Williams were third equal. In the baby show Dr and Mrs E. Hefford’s daughter was first.
