Strange Phenomenon Of Mediterranean
The world’s strangest mirages, .
known as Fata Morgana, are seen in parts of Italy off the coasts of Sicily and Calabria, and Hungary. When the rising sun shines down at a certain angle upon water unruffled by wind, objects on the opposite shore are seen reflected upon the water, representing large' and duplicated images. Gigantic figures of men and horses move along, together with trees, houses and castles. In ancient times it was believed that the phenomenon was due to the fairy Morgana, from which came the name.
