Impressive Xmas Party Is Held At Edgecumbe School

An impressive Christmas party at the Edgecumbe School on Wednesday drew a large crowd of parents and friends and proved to be one of the most popular events of the year. Arranged by the school committee and the Parent-Teacher Association the party provided gifts for many of the children. Entering the school on a sledge Santa Claus drew an enthusiastic cheer from the children lining the drive way. As they sang carols he drove up to a Christmas tree and then presented gifts and a bag of sweets to pupils up to standard one. A violin demonstration was given by learners of the instrument and then each member of the school staff was presented with a gift from the school committee. The following certificates were presented:— Attendance: ' Lorraine Roberts, lan Simpson, Terry Burgess, June Weir. Cooking: Jean Kirk, Anne Patterson. Sewing: Senior, Barbara Burgess; junior, Gabrielle Rowles. Decorative: Senior, Diana Radcliffe; junior, Jennifer Blake and Dale Irving. Calf judging: Senior, Beverley Teasdale; junior, Graham Orr and Terry Carter. Dux of the school: Beverley Lamb.
