£ .• ~ • CLUB OPENING" SEASON 5: ON SUNDAY The Whakatane Surf Club officially open the 1949/50 season at Ohope on Sunday afternoon with ' , displays of surf drill by all teams. In addition six-man and four-man \ teams will' take to the- water and the various, methods of rescue will be shown through the surf. ‘ ■ Teams have been training steadily during the past few weeks for > the National Championships, which are to be held at Wellington late , \ next month, and on Sunday the public will have an opportunity to gauge how far the teams have progressed. Along 'with the disylays • of surf work the clubs intends to hold a beauty contest and entries are invited on the beach from all local “beauties.” Judging is to take place on Sunday afternoon. v x '
