Plunket Garden Party At Matata

The Matata sub-committee of the Plunket Sociiety intended to hold a super garden party at the residence of Mrs P. M. G. Whitham at Pikowai recently. The best made schemes, however, cannot the weather, and the chosen day happened to be wet. All the delights of an outside function, many of the competitions arranged for young and old, and swimming in the lagoon, had to be abandoned. The swing which would have given pleasure to many boys and girls hung lonely al the day. Phones started to ring, the Pikowai men got busy, and a hasty shift was made to King’s Theatre. Matata.

At the hall, in spite of the weather, the willing band of helpers did good business. The produce stall was well filled, and the sales table showed the result of several enthusiastic sewing bees. Ice cream, lollies and a bran tub proved very popular with the children. Various competitions suitable for the occasion were run.

After expenses were paid the result was about £45, a very satisfactory sum considering the unfavouipble weather.
