Tawa Not Permitted Despite- a request from a timber impregnation company to permit tawa timber to be used in the borr ough for building purposes' this has been refused by the Whakatane Borough Council. It ,wss pointed out that the difficulty about allowing timber in the borough was in policing it to see whether it had been treated before use. District Advertising Booklet Already 1600 copies of the booklet advertising the ! attractions of Whakatape and district have been sold. Much favourable comment hast I ■ been accorded the booklet as a pictorial record of / Whakatane Borough and County, and it suggested itself as a suitable Christmas gift to send to other districts, and even overseas. ' Home Guard Reunion An invitation to ex-Home? Guardsmen, returned and home servicemen has been is'sued by the Taneatua Home Guard, which is\ keep-' ing alive the memory of wartime activities with a reunion on Friday night. From! whispers one hears . about the arrangements, it is certain the guests will be treated well, and will have every opportunity to enjoy themselves thoroughly. Queer Spelling Somfe readers might have noticed - s a bit of queer spelling in Monday’s Beacon, as well as a few other wierd errors and omissions. While we do our best, to turn out a clean - sheet, accidents will happen, and on Monday morning the motor on the Linotype machine burned out before we could get the corrections done and some of the late news set up.
