Traffic Licences
Fees for two heavy traffic licences were collected in the Whakatane County last month, valued at ■' £9 12s. Sixteen drivers’ licences were issued.
Patriotic Funds
The Whakatane Zone of the Bay < of Plenty Provincial Council has a cash credit of £15,310 Os 8d in the bank, it was revealed in the balance sheet for the year presented at a meeting on Monday.
Poor Fishing Conditions While there are reported to be any amount of trout in the rivers about Whakatane anglers have found it almost impossible to catch them because of the unstable weather conditions. Some good 7 sized fish have been caught and the trout that have been seen are in firstclass condition. Should the weather clear, the prospects for the rest of the season are expected to be good.
Grants to War Widows Christmas grants to widows and children of servicemen killed as a result of war service are to be made again this year by the Whakatane Zone of the Bay of Provincial Patriotic Council, it was decided at a meeting of the Zone executive at Whakatane on Monday. The procedure to be followed will be similar to that applied to the grant scheme last year.
Whakatane Bottle Collection
Usually most homes at Whaka- V / tane undergo a spring clean some- \j time before "Christmas when all the " 1 accumulated rubbish of the year is cleaned and carted away from the odd corners. This year the spring clean will be assisted by the Whakatane Rowing Club when it holds its annual bottle drive on December 10 to cover all of the borough and some parts of the county. Collectors will 'be on the job all day apd besides bottles will also collect old newspapers right from the door.
Adventists’ Convention The annual conference session and camp meeting of the Seventh-day Adventists will agaixi be held in Palmerston North, as from January sto the 15. Provision will' be made for over 200 tents to be pitched on the grounds North New Zealand Conference of of the N.Z. Missionary College while many delegates will use rooms in the College ‘vacated by students during the summer holidays. Several delegates from Whakatane will attend. An overseas delegationof six ministers is expected to be in attendance.
