Fall From Donkey When he fell from a donkey on Saturday Manihera Ngamanm 12 year old son of Mr A. P. Ngamanu, Paroa, received some head injuries and was admitted to the Whakatane District Hospital. His condition was eery satisfactory this morning.
Harbour Entrance The sand bank on the northern side of the mouth of the Whakatane River has built up ebnsiderably in the past few months and ha,s lengthened out gradually into the river. The river mouth at present is only about 50 yards wide,
Dogs Registered Twenty-two dogs were .registered by the inspector, Mr A. R. Carling, in the Whakatane County ‘.last month. This brings the total number registered this year to 2,677. Fees paid now have reached the sum of £759 11s.
Fertiliser Works?
With a view to going further into the question. of whether or not a fertiliser works could be successfully established at or near Whakatane, the Chamber of Commerce' has decided to investigate the consumption of fertiliser in this area* New Telephone Directory A new Bay of Plenty-Rotorua. telephone directory is now in the course of preparation and will probably be published early next year. Any people with changes of address or numbers should notify the post office now so that the alterations may be made. College of Retailers A special meeting of retailers at ' Whakatane is to be convened shortly to discuss the prospects of establishing a College of Retailers here. The Object of the college will be to coach retailers’ staffs in customer service and all angles of retail • trade. Dangerous Corners The Whakatane Chamber of Commerce has decided to ask the Borough Council, in the interests of public safety, to trim back the corners at the Landing road-King street and Bridge street-King street intersections. It is claimed that as the corners are at present it is impos-J[ k'ible for long wheelbase vehicles toilet around without drifting to the ■acorrect side. ■ ■evere Axe Cut - m A nine year old boy, John Henry pvlagee, son of Mr and Mrs K. Magee, "of Otakiri, was admitted to the Whakatane District Hospital on / Saturday with one of his fingers almost severed by a cut from an axe. He received treatment and his condition today was reported as satisfactory. Crowded St John Dance Mrs S. Box and Mr G. Gartshore were the fortunate couple to win the lucky Gay Gordons at the dance in the St John Hall, Whakatane, on Saturday night. To the music of Harrison’s Orchestra Miss C. Ernest and her partner won the/monte carlo, being the last couple eliminated on the crowded floor. Mr W. Abbott was M.C.
