Maori M.P. Faces Barrage Of Questions

At a political meeting at Waioeka Mr T. Omana, Maori candidate for the Eastern seat, was subjected to more than usual questioning by those of opposite political views. Questioners alleged that as a Maori Member, Mr Omana had failed in regard to the Maori housing problem. They argued that with hundreds of European dwellings being built the Member had not taken full advantage of the opportunity to get houses for the Maoris. At Waimana on Wednesday night, Mr Omana contended that taxation could not be cut, but admitted that the Government could have done without Mr Boswell, in Russia. Questioners contended that this was just one way in which expenditure could have been cut, and thus taxation reduced.
