PONY CLUB CAMP IN PROSPECT IN JANUARY
Efforts are to be made by the Whakatane Branch of the District Pony Club, probably in conjunction with White Pine Bush Branch, to organise a week-end camp, most likely during the Anniversary Day long week-end at the end of January. The scheme is to pick some spot within about 15 miles of Whakatane so that the riders there and ba,ck will not be too arduous for youngsters and horses unused to hard work, and to spend the weekend under canvas at the same time giving the riders a chance to ipick up some practical knowledge of caring for their horses on journeys. The annual meeting of the branch on Wednesday night also discussed plans to make local rallies more interesting by having planned pro - grammes of sports and instruction. Instructors are hoping for an early session with the head instructor to map out their work. Grazing for horses was discussed, and the meeting agreed to try to lease a suitable area for the purpose, appointing a member of the committee to make inquiries and start negotiations. Officers elected: Chairman, the District Commissioner, Mr D. G. Blomfield; secretary, Mrs P. Lynds; committee, Mrs M. Cooper, Mr and Mrs T. A* McCormick, Mr and Mrs W. G. Evington, Messrs S. G. Hirst, C. Zinsli and D. C. Stevens; instructors, Mesdames Chamberlain and E. Griffiths, Messrs A. Palniret, Brown and Stevens.
