Annual Grant The annual grant of £2O has been made by the Whakatane Borough Council to the Ohope Domain Board. Food Handlers’ Course A hygiene course for Whakatane food handlers is expected to be held this month, conducted by the Department of Health. Rugby Field Work Fences have been renewed, the area grazed with sheep and 60 yards of soil dressed in depressions of the Whakatane Field rugby grounds. More grass seed has been planted and fertiliser broadcast. Flood Culvert / A nine inch culvert serving the eastern side of Douglas Street has been replaced by a 12 inch culvert layed one foot lower. Spoil For Reclamation About 700 cubic yards of spoil has been carted and spread to the level of the refuse dump on reclaimed land by the borough chambers. Eivers Beach Domain A tractor is now engaged removing growth and levelling an area of two acres at Eivers Beach Domain to be grassed in preparation as a new camping site. Water Supply Water supply for two new service connections were made during the past month and two blowouts were repaired. New Pumping Plant The new pumping plant has been received at Whakatane and a start has now been made dismantling the old one. The new plant is to be installed as soon as posible. Hillcrest Power Lines A start has been made replacing a section of the secondary power line to Hillcrest with a heavier copoer wire to cope with the additional load now required in this area.
