Labour Party Spoiling Maoris, Claims Candidate

The Labour Party was’ spoiling the Maori race, which thought it was running th ecountry, the National candidate for the Eastern Maori seat, Mr T. Caroll, claimed in a campaign speech during his visit to the Bay of Plenty this week before a large attendance of Maori and some Pakeha electors. He said he did not intend to promise the electors much, but was anxious to secure real co-operation and harmony between the two races.

Mr Carroll, who was accompanied by the former National member for Eastern Maori, Sir Apirana Ngata, was given an attentive hearing. He left Whakatane on Wednesday.
