Mr Sullivan’s Murupara Meeting Well Attended
, Mr Sullivan’s meeting held in the Whirinaki Hall, Murupara, on Tuesday was well attended by 75 people both Maori and Pakeha.
The speaker was warmly welcomed by f all and after being introduced by" the chairman, Mr Wilson (Councillor) Mr Sullivan was given a very attentive hearing for over an hour and a half. The questions asked after Mr Sullivan had delivered his address, concerned hydro-elec-tric schemes in the Bay of Plenty rivers, native timber suitable for milling on Maori lands (asked by a Maori), Stabilisation Account. In each case very satisfactory answers were given by Mr Sullivan. A vote of confidence in Mr Sullivan and the National Party, was carried unanimously.
Since opening his campaign at Rotoiti, the day after the - Parliamentary Session concluded, Mr Sullivan has covered a wide area throughout his constituency, addressing sometimes as many as three meetings a day. On several occasions he had held two meetings nightly. A feature of the campaign to date has been the marked public interest in the contest as evidenced by the/large attendances at meetings.
For the ensuing week, Mr Sullivan will bp speaking in other parts of New Zealand, and will then resume his campaign here with meetings at Matakina, * Otakiri, Taneatua, Otara, Opotiki, Whakatane and Rotorua. A broadcast address by Mr Sullivan from Taumarunui will be heard on Tuesday next.
