Drinking Control Among Maoris

“I am strongly against the the abuse of liquor,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, at Whakarewarewa. He added that the Maori people must see to it that no abuses occurred as the result of the amendments to the liquor laws. The Government has considered that it was right to alter the law and say that the Maori people could look after themselves. Good work had been done bv the wardens but 'they had not enough power and authority. “We want to give them that power and authority, particularly where the young people are concerned,” he said.
