376,554 Motor Vehicles The total number of motor vehicles licensed in New Zealand at September 30 was 376,554, an increase of 20,932 compared with the number in 1948. The total comprised 135,512 commercial vehicles, 224,038 cars and 17,004 motor cycles.

Eclgecumbe Card Evening There was a good attendance at the fortnightly card evening held in the Edgecumbe School on Monday night. The winners were Mesdames L. C. Weir and A. T. Andrews while the booby prizes went to Mesdames A. Andresen and D. McCorquindale. Record Trout Caught A record for the season in weight was established by a brown trout caught by Mr W. Carter, Ohope last week-end. Mr Carter hooked the fish which, when landed tipped the scales at 13|lbs and measured 28 inches in length. It is believed this is the heaviest trout so far caught this season. Mr Carter was fishing at Okawa Bay and obtained limit bags easily.
