Rowing

WHAKATANE CLUB OPENS NEW SEASON Competing in his last regatta with his club before being transferred to Te Puke today, R. King stroked the winning crew to victory in the trial fours races at the opening day of the Whakatane Rowing Club on Saturday. King’s crew, Kiddie, D. McGlashan, P. M. Cropp, rowed particularly well in all their heats and went through to win the final by 1J lengths. Visitors to the opening were members of the Tauranga Rowing Club, who made up crews with members of the home club for each race.

Races were held under ideal conditions and before a large crowd. Before the racing of the semi-finals the season was officially opened by the club president, Mr B. Cutler, who expressed appreciation to a number of well known personages of the district for bding present.

Bowering, N. lies, C. Roberts, D. Wells, Flay beat L. O. Stewart, K. Dines, Ferguson, Kane, Delahunty by three feet.
