Rowing
CLUB OPENS SEASON ON SATURDAY The only other rowing club in the Bay of Plenty, Tauranga, is expected to send a large contingent to .the official opening of the Whakatane Rowing Club cn Saturday afternoon. At least ten crews will probably take part in the trial four races, which will take up the greater part of the day’s proceedings. These will commence just off the Heads Domain and finish • off the Club’s shed. „
Because of the large number of visiting and local rowers available, Club officials have been caused a slight headache considering a way in which to work in their very full programme. As a result it is thought that a very small number of the newer members who have so far managed to take the water only a limited number of times, may possibly be asked to stand down. While this is regretted it is felt that it is the only course open if all races are to be decided in reasonable time.
