MOTHERS’ LEAGUE DISCUSSES CARE OF HOME & CHILD

Should a mother neglect her’ children by spending most of her time cleaning the house or should she neglect the home by giving all her time to the children? This was the topic of discussion, homeaak- < y ing v housekeping, which took up ' much of the time- of the monthlymeeting of the Whakatane Branch of the League of Mothers. The main speakers were Mesdames R. Tong, H. Johnston, Te Hira Ferguson and J. Metcalfe. One speaker considered that a good mother could be likened to a good cook. One who was able to leave out or enrich a recipe, in this case, a formula for bringing up her children. When a woman marries, the speaker added, she undertakes to keep house for husband and before any family arrives she has ample time to make her home attractive and able to be run on orderly lines. Other speakers felt that when a family did come along if the home were neglected then the housewife was neglecting part of her duty. It was not necessary to spend too much time entertaining the children.
