Bay Of Plenty Now Well Supplied With Eggs: Surplus Pulped
The supply of eggs, now at its best in the Bay of Plenty, shows no signs of diminishing, and is not expected to until about the middle of next month.
• The season has been a good one. With regular supplies of good quality feed available, commercial poultry men have been able to increase their flocks, and an industry that was neglected for some years has gained considerable support and strength in recent months. At present it is necessary to control the supply of fresh eggs to the distribution centres, to prevent creating a glut, and this is beingdone at the various - egg floors throughout the country, where pulping of surplus hen eggs and duck eggs is being done. Stricter grading for quality and faster transport have done much to improve the efficiency of the industry, and at the moment consumers can get all the eggs they want, on the basis of 2s 9d a dozen for standard grade eggs.
