NURSES’ ASSN. GARDEN PARTY AT EDGECUMBE
Although the sky was overcast, no rain fell to mar the Registered Nurses’ Garden Party, which was held at Mrs Hawke’s residence, Edgecumbe, last Thursday. The lawns and gardens were a picture; people movong about among the trees; children playing in the Nursery Corner on a swing or having turns with the Rocking Horse, all lent colour to the party.
Mr McCorquindale was kept very busy as gateman; John Hawken was a great help to the Nurses, and always seemed to be right there, when a strong man was needed. Mesdames Iremonger and Lennon worked like Trojans at the Bring and Buy Stall, which was a great success. Mi’s McCorquindale made sure that there was always plenty of hot water, besides many other duties; Mrs Checkley managed a tea-pot nearly as big as herself; Mesdames Ranson and Busby were very busy organising games and competition to entertain everybody,
Winners of games: Clock Golf, Mrs B. Butler. Croquet, Mrs Carter. Lucky Spot in the garden, Mrs Metcalfe. Competitions: Cake, Georgina Smith. Dinner, Mrs J. A. Busby. When afternoon tea had been served, Mrs Fletcher Cole, in the absence of Miss E. Armstrong, president, thanked the people for attending and giving such splendid assistance to the Nurses. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Hawken for her kindness in allowing her home and grounds to be used for the garden party.
