Placing an entry into each of the ten sections and gaining three firsts the Bay of Plenty Philaletic Society was awarded the Ambrey Shield for gaining the highest number of aggregate points in the Waikato Philatelic Society’s competition at Hamilton last week. It was a popular win for the Bay Society, which defeated the efforts of seven other societys from different parts of the North Island.

Only a young .society, formed three years ago at Whakatane, the Bay of Plenty Philaletic Society had made remarkable progress and members display much enthusiasm. But the competition at Hamilton was the first it. had yet entered and was entered more for experience and to find out more of what was wanted.

In the different sections sheets of stamps that were collected and arranged during the year' were submitted and in most cases were complimented on by the judges. Points

were awarded for the condition, completeness and anotation of the stamps. The standard was particularly high throughout the competition.

Finishing second to Bay of Plenty |were Waikato with the Auckland ? Society third. With experience gained the Bay of Plenty Society now plans to de-

fend the shield at next year’s competition.
