A Popular Concert Presented by W.I. At Murupara
On Monday night the Galatea Women’s Institute again presented' their recent concert, this time in the Rangitahi Hall at Murupara and in conjunction with- the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. The audience was not as large as it dould have been but the evening progressed very satisfactorily in spite of this. Mr J. Thatcher, acted as M.C. for the evening. The programme was not exactly the same as it had been at the first concert, the additions to it being Mrs Fanning, Mr J. Merriman and the Hill Brothers as well as the two little girls, Carol and Robyn Gear. Mrs Fanning opened the programme by singing “Trees” and “My Hero” in a very pleasing way and she later led the Community Singing whilst preparations were being made for the play “Five to FiveThirty.” Mr Merriman and the Hill Brothers proved very popular with their singing and yodelling, Mr Merriman singing solo and accompanying himself on the Spanish guitar and the Hill Brothers singing together with their own guitar accompaniment. Carol and Robyn Gear each recited a poem “When Grandma Was a Girl” and “Shoeses and Sockses” in a very gay manner.
Master Brian Walsh again displayed his talent with a well performed piano solo and Mrs Alexander proved a popular artist with her singing of “You Can’t Be True, Dear” and “Don’t Ask Me Why.” The concert concluded with a oneact play “Five to Five-Thirty.” Those taking part were Mrs Heard as the Mother, Mrs Gear as the Charlady, Mrs Boxer and Mrs Paton, Mrs Lee and Mrs R. Goodhue as the three daughters.
