Successful Garden Party At Awakeri By Local W.B.F.F.

Bright sunshine and a light breeze contributed to the success of- the Awakeri Women’s Division garden party, held recently in the grounds of Mr and Mrs C. R. Wilson’s home, Awakeri. The garden was gay with colour, flowering shrubs adding much to the attractiveness of the setting. Brisk trade was carried on at the produce stall, bran tubs and other novelty tents. Competitions were won by the following:— Putting, Mrs C. R. Wilson; iced fruit cake. Mrs Curran; cardigan, Mrs J. Phillips; dinner, Mrs E. C. Haultain. Much interest and information was derived from a demonstration in floral work given by Mrs C. Hallett, who showed the various methods of making posies without the use of wire. A satisfactory sum was raised during the afternoon to augment the funds of the branch, thus furthering the work of the Women’s Division in making available the facilities of their housekeeping scheme, and rest homes for country women in need of a holiday.
