ELECTION CAMPAIGN OPENING WITH MEETINGS IN SMALLER CENTRES
Once more the political campaigning season is open, and the two local camps are showing marked signs of stirring up some activity.
The sitting Member for Bay of Plenty, Mr W. Sullivan, M.P., has already addressed an audience at Rotoiti and is off down the East Coast to whip- up a bit more enthusiasm for the opposition’s cause in the southern end of the electorate. Before going to Te Kaha last night, he addressed a meeting at Wainui on Monday evening, when a vote ( of thanks and appreciation was carried unanimously. Mr Sullivan goes to Waihou Bay tonight. Mr Santons’ campaign committee met over the week-end and planned an itinerary of meetings in the small country centres, starting with Mamaku tonight. Though new to electionering, Mr Santon’s supporters claim he has most of the answers and will be able to handle all the questions likely to be asked. Nor is he to be without experienced support on the platform. First to trundle up the heavy artillery will be the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Cullen, who is to speak at Edgecumbe on November 1, closely followed by the Prime Minister at Rotorua on November .4 and the Minister of Works, Mr Semple on November 24. It is also possible that Messrs W. Freer and M. Moohan M’s.P. might speak in this electorate.
