PLAYING AREA FOR OTAKIRI IS PLANNED

The Otakiri playing area committee set up by a public meeting to ■finalise matters concerning Mr Barton’s proffered gift of land reports that all documents are now to hand and will be presented to a public meeting on Monday night for approval and adoption. This has brought to finality a difficult task after much work. The area under offer is capable of containing, if so desired, facilities for football, hockey, tennis, cricket, bowls and croquet, so that all; sections of the community may be catered for. Much detailed work has been done by the, committee and with the Valuable assistance of Mr C. A. Suckling and Mr Hutton a comprehensive and, it is thought, a satisfactory plan has been evolved. It is hoped, therefore, that a fully representative gathering of the residents of the Otakiri district will attend and take • the advantage of this generous offer, that will make available to that community of all ages a recreation area for all time. It is pointed out by organisers that this meeting will not commit those attending to any financial payment as the plan has been so designed that sports bodies will, if they wish, create their own amenities which will .remain their own property.
