EXPLODING PAINT TIN INJURES EYE OF OHOPE WOMAN

When she was struck in the right eye by the lid of an exploding paint tin yesterday at about 10 a.m. Mrs P. Simons, of Ohope, suffered. a serious injury and the loss of sight in the eye. She was examined by Dr E. G. Hefford, who immediately ordered her through to Hamilton for examination by an eye specialist to ascertain the extent of the injury. Mrs Simons had purchased a tin of aluminium paint the previous day and had noticed a slight bulge in the bottom of the tin but did not give it any thought. When she went to open the tin with a sissoirs, .intending to paint a stove, it blew iip with a loud bang, covei’ing her with paint while the lid struck the white of the right eye very sharply. Mrs Simons was taken to be examined by the doctor by Mr L. R. Spring, Whakatane, who happened to be near her home at the time of the accident. Mrs Simons was laken through to Hamilton yesterday by her husband.
