16th Anniversary Of Coronation Of Maori King

The 16th anniversary of the coronation of King Koroki will be held at Turangawaewae Pa, Ngaruawahia, tomorrow, and a large number of Maoris from all parts of New Zealand is expected.

Coronation celebrations will consist of football, hockey and basketball tournaments and discussions on major tribal matters will take place among the “kaumatua” or elders of the varions tribes. The main topic to be discussed will be the form which the 600th anniversary next year will take of the coming of the Maori to New Zealand. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, will attend a meeting of the “kaumatua” today.

On October 8, 1933, the coronation of King Koroki took place and from that year the purpose of the King Movement has become more and more evident in the ever-in-creasing number of entries from the different tribes, for the various sports.
