Tributes Paid To Work Of Immigrants By Nursing Matron
At the recent meeting of the League of Mothers (Whakatane Branch) Miss Miller, Matron of the Whakatane Hospital, addressed members. In the course of an informal talk, she mentioned the importance of the work of immigrants in the hospital and their splendid and ungrudging service. While describing the staff shortage at the Whakatane hospital, Miss Miller paid high tribute to her present sisters and staff, whose cheerfulness and hard work in most difficult times was outstanding. A very enlightening resume of' the nursing life followed. In this section of her talk, Miss Miller stressed how necessary it was for a girl to have a reasonably good education before taking up nursing, and also how important it was that a girl should come from a good, home. A gii’l from such a home usually fitted into the nursing life, with its necessary strict discipline, much more readily than a girl from an undisciplined atmosphere.
At the conclusion of the address the president, Mrs J. Metcalfe, presented Miss Miller with a beautiful spray. Two vocal solos were presented by Mrs Davey.
