Lawn Tennis Club Reports Good Year: No Liabilities
Following its first playing season on the new courts at the Domain, the Whakatane Lawn Tennis Club was able to report a sound financial position at the annual meeting. The Club has no liabilities whatever, and had such a demand for membership last year that it had to close the roll at 120. Due to the fact that a number of last year’s members have left the district, there are a limited number of vacancies for new members this year, but those are filling rapidly. This year’s official opening will take place on October 22 with a Yankee tournament. Officers elected: — President, Mr P. R. Bryers; secretary, Mr T. Hall; treasurer, Mr T. J. Loney; club captain, Mr E. Wilson; committee, Mrs Bridger, Misses M. Hall, M. Righton, Messrs H. Mahy, J. Gartshore, J. Pearson. B. Mole and J. H. Duthie; match committee, Mrs Hall and Messrs E. Wilson and G. Gordon; women’s committee, Misses Moore, Olsen, Bryers, Righton, Magee, Pithie and Mrs McKenzie; green superintendent, Mr H. Mahy.
