Whakatane Guide Week Starting Next Sunday

In common with all other centres in which the girl guiding movement is established, Whakatane will witness a number of guiding activities next week. Girls from the local units will participate in a programme which can be calculated to give the movement the fullest publicity, and to demonstrate the broad aims of co-operative and universal friendship for which guiding stands. The week will open with a special Church service at St. George’s Anglican Church on Sunday next at 11 a.m. On Monday a special, Guide and Brownies social afternoon commencing at 3.15 p.m. takes place and a warm invitation is extended to parents and others to attend. On Tuesday guides will demonstrate their international service by packing and despatching a number of friendship parcels for Rewi. Alley’s school in China. These will contain foods, flowers, grasses, vegetables, cereals, tree seeds and linen flax, school and hospital needs. Saturday, October 8 will be devoted to community service when the guides will assist the local Beautifying Society with borough improvements. The week will conclude with the holding of a district camp fire on Mr J. Lawn’s property, at Taneatua.
