Tarawera Bridge Near Awakaponga To Be Repaired

One tender has been accepted and work is to commence repairing the Tarawera bridge, which spans the Tarawera River on the Edge-cumbe-Matata .road near Awakaponga, it was reported at this week’s meeting of the Whakatane County Council by the engineer, Mr C. IT. Brebner. So that the work can be carried out without interruption the bridge was closed from Wednesday to traffic and will remain closed to traffic between 7.30 a.m. on Monday and 5 p.m. on Friday of every week. Provision has been made for the complete replacement of all spiking pieces, shaky decking, cleaning and repainting of the steel girders and the repainting of the superstructure. The job is estimated to cost about £SOO.
