SUCCESSFUL MEN’S EVENING HELD BY AWAKERI P.T.A.
The men’s evening of the Awakeri Parent-Teacher Association last week was attended by sixty members including Mr R. J. Patti£on, headteacher of the Edgecumbe School, and members of the Edgecumbe P.T.A. Routine business was reduced to a minimum in anticipation of a long awaited programme to be presented to the men of the district.
At 8.30 p.m. a long line of mannequins gracefully (sic) paraded before their audience garbed in ultramodern creation to the accompaniment of a waltz. The hilarious approval of this effort had scarcely died down before these masculine performers re-appeared to give their interpretation of a ballet and an old time waltz. Musical numbers were presented by Messrs Len Broadmore, Jack Phillips, “Mfck” Penny, P. T. Church and H. C. Carter. Mr E. C. Haultain delighted his audience with a rendering of one of Banjo Patterson’s poems. Competitions were won by Mesdames Fletcher, Philcox and McQueen. A highlight of the evening was the hot supper prepared and served entirely by the men.
