THORNTON DEFEATS AWAKERI

A friendly football match between Thornton and Awakeri Young Farmers’ Clubs was held at Awakeri on Sunday afternoon, Thornton just winning by the narrow margin, 6—3. Awakeri opened the scoring after kicking a penalty goal. In the second half D. Jones made a spectacular run of 25 yards to score a try 10 yards from the side line. Five minutes later Thornton were awarded a penalty, which was converted by J. Law. Final score being 6—3. After the match Awakeri served afternoon tea.
